It's hard to miss the flower section at Trader Joe's. I walk right by it, and I can't help but stop and turn around. This week, they had so many beautiful fall colored blooms. I could see the kitchen countertop at home longing for a centerpiece. Therefore, I started to rifle through the bunches, creating a color coordinated bundle. It gets me all excited to be creative, and to take apart these bunches, only to create something more unique.
Below are pictures of the flowers that I purchased: a chamomile bunch, one bunch of large mums, one bunch of mini carnations, and two bunches of seeded eucalyptus. This whole bouquet was made for under $20! I love using eucalyptus as a filler, and I like to keep it tall so it has definition throughout the bunch. The chamomile and carnations are a thicker filler, which I like to use as it takes up more space and helps you spread out the bouquet more.
After unwrapping and untying each bunch, I strip them of the foliage and cut down the stems. I only cut them down before working with them as it gives me a better idea of how tall the whole bunch will be. As opposed to working with stems of varying lengths. You always want to cut the stems especially before placing them into a vase.
When creating the bouquet, you can either do it by placing the stems in a vase, or hold it in your hand. I personally like holding it in my hand, and using the other hand to place the flowers around the arrangement, as I feel it gives me more control of the height and tucking flowers in between each other. The eucalyptus can be a little flimsy, so I like to place the carnations around it to help it stand up straight. Below, is a step by step process that I used. The pictures are going to make the arrangement look a little wonky, but as we keep going, it will form a well-rounded bouquet!
First: I take a large mum as the center of my arrangement. Then I take two pieces of eucalyptus and place them on either side.
Second: I take two of my chamomile stems, and form one on each side of the mum, in between the eucalyptus. Along with my carnations, four of them are placed around the chamomile stems. Next, we will begin to frame the whole bouquet.
Third: I take four more mums, and begin placing them around the whole arrangement. You can see how I used them in the corners of the bouquet. Therefore here, they look as though they're just sticking out on their own.
Fourth: I begin to wrap around with the chamomile and carnations. I space out the chamomile using around four stems for the outside, then in the space between the chamomile, I place a carnation. And finally, I tuck in pieces of eucalyptus that frame the outside of the arrangement.
After the arrangement is all formed, I tend to pull up certain flowers and tuck others behind each other. I then cut to the same length, and place into a vase!
And there you have it! I hope I inspired some of you to run to Trader Joe's and get creative with your own fall arrangement. Also, grab some of those dark chocolate almond butter cups while you're at it, promise you won't regret it. Thanks for reading <3
